Caleb Kasten is a sophomore here at Marquette. He plays football and baseball, and really enjoys his sports. For this edition of Marquette Student Spotlight, Caleb was chosen at random, just like you can be chosen as well. The Marquette Gazette sat down with Caleb to learn more about his time at Marquette and how the school year is going for him.
When asked how his freshman year went, as it is a make or break year for most, he told me that it was overall easy, and pretty fun. On a similar note, he joined football that year, but the season ended short which caused us to wonder: How’d you break your leg? He told me that while at football, 2 lineman rolled into and his knee hyper extended and “kind of broke it.”
Caleb is also a part of a rare Alton/Marquette family dynamic happening in his household with his sister going to Alton High and him going to Marquette. When asked about this home divide, he told us that there was “A lot of trash talk,” and that every time Alton and Marquette face off, they talk trash towards each other the whole week up until the game. As a follow up, Caleb was asked if she ever attends his games either football or baseball to support him, and he told us no.
Caleb, who is an offensive/defensive lineman of the Marquette football team, was then interrogated on how he felt about this current season, if we’d make playoffs again, and if we’d even possibly make it to state. He told us he’s confident the team will make it to the playoffs; however, to make it to state there would be a lot more work to do. He says they need to work more as a team and less as individuals.
To conclude the interview, Caleb was asked about life after high school, and if he was thinking about college. Caleb told us that his goal right now is to go into the trades, mainly for the reason of job security. For most trades, it’s easy to find a job, a decent starting pay, and good benefits. His only requirements are that the job has to be in a house already, and must have AC.
