The Village of Godfrey built a disc golf course (also known as frisbee golf), which opened in June, at La Vista Park off of Delmar Road to give the community a fun way to enjoy the outdoors and to get some exercise.
Construction of the course started in May of 2019. The Park and Recreation and numerous volunteers from Smart
Choice Auto Sales spent over 150 hours building the course so far. They have finished fifteen out of the eighteen holes, with the last three holes to be completed by the end of the year.
The total cost of the 18 hole course is about $9 thousand alone.
The course consists of red, white, and blue tee pads so beginners, intermediates, and professionals can enjoy the sport on the same course.
The course was built after Jason Enos, owner of Smart Choice Auto Sales, played disc golf last December at Gordon Moore Park in Alton, Illinois with one of his family members who convinced him to try out the fun
and active sport.
Mr. Enos liked the sport so much he thought that there should be one in Godfrey. So when Mr. Enos noticed that about a mile down the road from his office there was enough space at La Vista Park, he discussed the idea with the Village and found they too liked the idea.
Although the course isn’t complete yet, the community can still play 15 of the 18 holes on the course while construction continues on the unfinished holes.
“The course will hopefully get a lot of new players introduced to the sport from the local community, and will also get families outside to exercise and enjoy the sport as a family.” Mr. Enos stated. “I have played the course
many times and I think the course is technical, challenging, and the nicest one in the riverbend,” Mr. Enos also stated.
